Welcome to
the Shinnston Community Band web site!

The
Shinnston Community Band based in Shinnston, West Virginia is a
concert band consisting of amateur and professional musicians from
the North-Central West Virginia area.
News
The SCB Officers and committee members met at the Shinnston City
Government Offices on January 22, 2008 to discuss a wide variety of
topics including the rehearsal schedule for the upcoming Summer
Concert season. Rehearsals begin February 19th at 7:00pm at
the Lincoln High School bandroom, and will continue once or twice
each month until weekly rehearsals begin in May.
Did
you notice the new signs as you enter the city on each end of Route
19 and on Saltwell Road that announce "the Home of the Shinnston
Community Band." !!! Thanks to Norm McDougal of ACE
Metal Works in Enterprise for his generous donation to the band and
the city. Mr. McDougal is a great supporter of SCB and has
donated an enormous amount of time and materials to promote the
band. THANK YOU!
One
other announcement: The SCB Family Picnic will be held at the
Shinnston City Park on June 29th. Swimming at the pool will be
free for members and their families. More information will be
forthcoming.
See
you Tuesday...remember: BRING A FRIEND TO REHEARSAL.
Christmas was in the air once again at the Lighthouse in Shinnston
for the Shinnston Community Band's 11th Annual Christmas Concert.
As always the band was in the holiday spirit, as was the overflow
crowd that filled the building. The evening began with the
City of Shinnston's annual Christmas parade. The kiddies were
treated to the appearance of the big man himself---Santa!
After the parade the townsfolk made their way to the Lighthouse to
hear another fine performance of the band. It was
the perfect end to a wonderful Christmas-like evening.
The
band will be beginning rehearsals for the summer season sometime in
February of '08. Keep watching your email and this page for
more information concerning rehearsals.
If you
are interested in joining the band please send an email to
shinnstonband@aol.com for
more information. For our current members--BRING A FRIEND !!!
Merry
Christmas
and
Happy
New
Year
from
SCB!!
Another successful summer concert has come and gone. Once
again the band continues to outdo and perform better than ever!
The only disappointment comes from only having the one opportunity
to play this summer. Plans are in the works to get more
opportunity for the band in the coming month
Click
here to see photos of the
concert. Thanks to Mr. Cale, Mr. Hall, Mr. Way, and of course,
all members--who make up SCB. Keep checking your email for
information on the next rehearsals.
After
a long break, the Shinnston Community Band is gearing up for the
summer. A few changes are in store for this session. Bill
Way has decided to take a much deserved break from conducting this
session. He is still involved in the band and will be playing
trumpet. Mike Cale has graciously stepped in to lead us
through the summer. Randall Hall has also returned and may be
conducting a number or two. Thanks to all for
what they do for the band. We all appreciate it!
Also,
music will be handled a little differently than in the past.
Each section will have a Section Librarian that will be responsible
for handing out music to their section. If you need music see
your Section Librarian.
Finally (and most importantly), the Independence Day Concert and
Fireworks event is scheduled for July 1 at the Shinnston City Park.
This is biggest event of the year for the band and the city.
Please attempt to make all rehearsals for this concert. Since
we're getting a late start it's important we all attend as many as possible
to put on a quality show.
Remember--BRING A FRIEND!!
The
Winter Session of the SCB
10th Anniversary will begin October 3 at Lincoln High School at
7:00pm. There will be no rehearsal on the following Tuesday
October 10, but the next week we will begin weekly rehearsals
beginning October 17th. Mr. Way has added several new songs to
the song list this year so it's very important that everyone attend
every rehearsal.
See
you soon, and remember....bring a friend to rehearsal !!!!
Our
10th Anniversary is underway and we have just finished with the
summer session. We began the season with some food, fun, and
camaraderie with a picnic at the Shinnston City Park on June 30th.
Everyone had a terrific time and it was such a success that plans
are underway to make it an annual event! Click
here to
see some pictures of the picnic.
The
concert season started off with a bang (no pun intended!) on July
1st with the 6th Annual Independence Celebration Concert and
Fireworks show at the Shinnston City Park. This year saw the
largest crowd yet! Every year it just gets bigger and bigger!
The evening began with the premiere of the Shinnston Community Jazz
Ensemble. Following a few announcements, the community band
took the stage to the delight of the audience. The finale
featured a fireworks show that is second to none! Thanks to
our partners at SADF for providing the fireworks. Click
here
to see some photos of our concerts.
We
also ended the season with a bang (ok, pun intended!) with a
performance at the Benedum Festival in Bridgeport. There was
also a grand fireworks display for the finale of the festival.
Thanks to everyone who works to make these concerts a success.
Watch
your emails for information on the winter rehearsal schedule.
Rehearsals should begin late September or early October.
Special plans are in the works for our 10th anniversary Christmas
season. Remember, bring a friend to rehearsal!
Now
for some sad news.....

We are
saddened to say that one of our founding members, tuba player Gary
Martin, passed away last week. Gary was one of our most loyal
members and he meant a lot to the community band. He made
being in this band more than just fun, but a real joy to be in.
Gary always had a joke and a smile. He will be missed, but
always remembered.
Rehearsals are underway for the 10th Anniversary of the Shinnston
Community Band! Its hard to believe that we've been doing this
for 10 years. WOW! We are very excited and are planning
a few things this season to celebrate, including a picnic to be held
at the Shinnston City Park on Friday, June 30th at 6:30pm. All
members past and present are invited to attend. Hope to see
you there!
Our
performances this year kick off with the 6th Annual Independence Day
Celebration and Fireworks Concert. Special thanks go to the
Shinnston Area Development Foundation for the areas largest
fireworks display, bar none! We are also performing again for
the Benedum Festival. As always, this festival has become one
of our favorites. If you're looking for things to do, these
two events are just a few of the best anywhere.
If you are interested in joining the
band, contact Evan at 622-1171 or email
ShinnstonBand@aol.com.
If you are already a member, bring a friend!
See
you at rehearsal!
Anyone who attended
this year's Christmas Concerts now realizes that SCB is one of the
premiere, all volunteer community concert bands anywhere! The
sound that this band has is incredible! Thanks to our friends
at The Lighthouse and the Shinnston Area Development Foundation for
putting on a first class community Christmas event on the 3rd.
The Christmas Parade was superb and the performance by the
contemporary Christian group "Twist of Faith" was outstanding.
SCB was once again pleased to finish the evening with our 9th Annual
Christmas Concert. (Of course, the homemade cookies and candy
afterward were one of the biggest treats of the evening!)
And we were very
excited to perform for the first time for our neighbors in
Lumberport at the Lumberport Baptist Church. Again SCB put on
a beautiful Christmas Concert to a packed, standing-room-only crowd
in their wonderful facility. (I must say that the homemade
cookies and refreshments afterward there were another big treat!)
Santa was there as well and was very impressed by the band! We
hope SCB will be getting something a little extra in our stocking
this year!
Thanks to our
Director Bill Way. Without his guidance this band would not
perform as well as it does! Also, special thanks to our
"manager" Bill Prunty. Bill always makes it easier and takes
care of all of us with an extra hand (or three!)
Check out our
updated roster page on the About Us

Community Band. Maybe you should

Check this page often for updates on our next rehearsals.
Special plans are currently in the works to celebrate our 10th
Anniversary. Stay tuned to this page for developments as they
happen. You certainly won't want to miss the very special
events planned for 2006! See you in the summer!
There are only TWO
rehearsals left before the Christmas Concerts. After rehearsal
on December 1st we will have cookies and other refreshments so
please make sure to attend. We set our concert schedule
for this Christmas. First up is the 9th Annual Christmas
Concert at the Lighthouse in Shinnston. We are also pleased to
announce that we have scheduled a concert in Lumberport, WV at the
Lumberport Baptist Church. This is the first year we've played
there and are looking forward to a great time there as well.
If you want to be added to the email list, send your email address
to us here. As
always, BRING A FRIEND TO REHEARSALS!
We're gearing up
for the holidays! The rehearsals for the Christmas Concerts
will begin October 4th at Lincoln High School at 7:00pm. No
definite dates have been determined for the concerts, we will have
information very soon. Keep checking back for updates.
If you want to be added to the email list, send your email address
to us here. As
always, BRING A FRIEND TO REHEARSALS!
Another summer
session has come and gone, and once again the band put on a
tremendous show. As always, the Shinnston Independence
Celebration Concert and Fireworks at the Shinnston City Park was
first class and second to none in the area! Also, as has
become a tradition of sorts, we were again well received at the
Benedum Festival at the Bridgeport City Park. This festival is
growing each year and has clearly become an area favorite!
Thanks to everyone involved in the organizations that work to put on
these wonderful events. We are proud to be a part of them.
Thank you.
The next season of
the Shinnston Community Band is just around the corner. No
plans have been finalized, but stay tuned...we will have rehearsal
info soon. If you are interested in joining the band, please
send us an email for more information. If you are a returning
member, then please.....BRING A FRIEND TO THE NEXT REHEARSALS!
SEE YOU IN OCTOBER!
Great first
rehearsal on the 19th! Everyone was happy to be back into the
swing of things after the Winter layoff. Lots of work to
do...lets get started! We have 2 rehearsals scheduled in May
on Tuesday the 17th and 31st. We begin weekly rehearsals every
Tuesday in June. Watch this page in the upper left corner for
the schedules. If there is a change (location or cancellation)
you will get an email. Make sure we have your email address!
Remember......BRING A FRIEND !!!
